Supernova of the Beautiful Game

I have never written a football article before. This is the first. I am breaking the tradition for a fitting reason. Arsene Wenger the football manager of Arsenal Football club will be quitting the club at the end of the season. How can I write about him in a way that anyone can get an idea about him? Let me try.

You have to be lucky to be in a profession which is well watched by public, impacting their mind ,soul and be successful. Sports is one such platform which makes people Happy ,Emotional, Frantic and Euphoric. You might cry after watching a good movie but nothing breaks your heart as much as your favorite team losing. True passion in sports is beyond logic and reason. Billy Shankly once rightly said “Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it’s much more serious than that”

Arsene joined Arsenal Football FC as head coach 22 years ago, relatively unknown foreign manager in England, with an MBA in management, I wonder how many managers in the world fit that description. He changed everything.

To mix Art and philosophy into sports require a personality and charisma which is rare. Arsene had it. His self-belief was so high did not just change the game he transformed it. For a person who has never watched football before, he created the beautiful game worth watching for its own sake.

I could go on and on about him, he deserves all the rhetoric. I do have a important story to share. You see, when you like someone very much and they disappoint you, you don’t want them to leave you. Rather you want them to change in a good way, not only to be the best version of what they can but also to do the right thing.

Arsene had a very challenging phase in his career between 2006 and 2018 which changed his reputation inside out. People talk. We all know that. One mistake and everyone forgets what you have done to them for such a long time. Arsene raised the bar and set the expectations high; unfortunately the bar was too high even for him to match thereafter.

The world is constantly changing. Sometimes you can do all you want but that still does not get you the right result. Arsene was a victim of circumstances and his own fallacies, which has tainted his legacy a bit. There were so many Trifling fools who call themselves as journalists have laughed at his tactics and decisions who barely are successful enough to make such scathing remarks.

This is a loss. Not watching Arsene while seeing Arsenal seems like watching mirror and not seeing your face. You notice the void only when the substance is gone. Perhaps one way to be immortalized is to inspire others with a high class act, which mesmerizes everyone to remember and follow the elegance and beauty that underlies the act. Whether it is the Billie Jean of Michael Jackson or Symphony 40 of Mozart or Mona Lisa of Da Vinci. Hearth full thank you for the all the memories Arsene.
